The venture, first announced without a name in May 2026, was built on the acquisition of Fractional AI, a boutique AI engineering startup that previously spent 11 months as an OpenAI implementation partner. Ode employs approximately 100 engineers, more than half of them former founders.

What Ode with Anthropic Does

Ode with Anthropic is an AI implementation company: it deploys forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) who work inside client companies to build and ship custom AI systems, such as automated claims processing, document pipelines, and internal agent workflows. Forward-deployed engineering is embedded consulting for AI — the engineer sits with the client’s team until the system runs in production. According to Chris Taylor, CEO of Ode: “A lot of the work that we’re doing is the top one or two priority for the CEO of the company.”

Built on Fractional AI, Backed by Private Equity

Fractional AI’s co-founders lead the new company — Chris Taylor as CEO and Eddie Siegel as Chief Technologist — and Fractional’s OpenAI partnership ended with the acquisition. The private equity backers supply more than capital: Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs will funnel their portfolio companies to Ode as customers, though Ode can sell to any enterprise. Taylor told TechCrunch: “It’s pretty easy to imagine this as a trillion-dollar company someday if we execute well.”

Claude-First, Not Claude-Only

Ode operates on a “Claude-first” principle: it uses Anthropic’s Claude, including Claude Tag in Slack, when possible, but selects rival models from OpenAI or Google when they perform better for a specific task.
